David Law (Den):
Golcar stalwart David Law ..... with over twenty year’s service to the club ..... and more popularly known ‘Den’ ..... is included in the National Heritage’s Hall of Fame ..... alongside other greats such as Percy Holmes and Sonny Ramadin.
As an outstanding junior cricketer at Bradley Mills and Meltham ..... David gained representative honours by captaining both ..... the league’s Joe Lumb ..... and White Rose Trophy sides ..... before joining Golcar in 1985 ..... where he played ever since.
For the majority of his playing career ..... David will be remembered as a stylish opening batsman and brilliant fielder ..... and despite being vastly under-bowled by his current captain ..... has latterly become an expert in the art of spin bowling ..... being able to turn the ball visciously on any surface ..... particularly when talking about it in the bar afterwards .....!
His best season came in 1991 ..... when he became the only player to win the first XI batting ..... bowling ..... and fielding prizes ..... all in the same season ..... with a highest score of 130 not out v Linthwaite ..... and a best bowling performance of 7-31 v Paddock.
In keeping with his own style ..... David not suprisingly named the ageing duo of Graeme Hick ..... and Colin Montgomerie ..... as his personal sporting heroes ..... both of whom he said ..... whilst not having won a great deal ..... have not received the credit their achievements richly deserve ..... lamenting his own circumstances maybe ..... ?
David’s regrets are not to have played in a Sykes Cup Final ..... after being on the losing side in four semi-finals ..... !!
